A Resource for Modernist, Vintage, Antique & Contemporary Art & Objects
Our fine art collection is comprised of over 8,000 works of rediscovered, historically significant and contemporary artists. It reflects the major styles and movements of the 20th Century. Every collection is researched, reconditioned and catalogued at our Salon in San Francisco.
Eileen
was born Eileen Cummings. She attended art school in Detroit in the
1920s where she met her future husband, Arthur Basté. Arthur was also
an artist that specialized in metal and woodwork done in the Arts and
Crafts and Spanish Revival styles (exquisite trunks, architectural
candlesticks, etc.). Arthur also had an interest in jewelry making and
Eileen was interested in fashion illustrating. They would collaborate
on the jewelry making with Eileen creating the designs and Arthur
making the pieces. They both had a love for Steuben hand-blown glass
and Eileen painted several small still life’s of Steuben pieces.
Arthur and Eileen had two sons, Michael and
Louis - both born in the 1930's. They lived at University Place in
Detroit, Michigan from roughly 1936 until at least into the 1960's.
After that time they moved West and eventually landed in Vacaville,
California, East of San Francisco. Arthur died in the 1970s. Eileen
died in 2006. This
collection features the work of Eileen done primarily in 1920s and
1930s while studying fine art. Images feature friends such as Douglass
Eliott, Florence Hill and Jimmy Hugh.
